Osteoporosis is the term used to describe bones that are weakened through loss of mineral density and are therefore susceptible to fracture.

This condition is very common in women, especially after menopause, and affects one in three women in their lifetime and one in eight men. Certain medications and medical conditions can make people more susceptible, as can lifestyle factors such as smoking, excessive alcohol intake and a sedentary lifestyle. We are very happy to discuss osteoporosis risk with patients and arrange DEXA scanning and treatment if indicated.
